Incredible Things to Do on Mother’s Day!

These aren’t your average mother’s day plans. Okay, brunch is a given for many on Mother’s Day. We love brunch…yummy food plus bottomless mimosas! But this year, why not make it one for the books and top it off with something memorable? Here are some incredible ideas of things to do on Mother’s Day that the moms in your life (including yourself if you are one) will love!

    The Griffith Observatory
This is a great one you can do any time throughout the weekend, day or night (check observatory hours). Enjoy a nice walk up to the incredible Griffith Observatory and enjoy spectacular views throughout the day! The best part – it’s always free! You can pay for additional events and shows, but you can enjoy tons of amazing elements of the observatory including exhibits and some telescopes with free general admission! Plan on taking lots of great photos, bring sun screen if it’s day time and if it’s night time, bring a jacket. At the high elevation, it can get windy sometimes! This place is friendly for all ages. If you’re there on Saturday, you can also enjoy some brews at the Griffith Park Beer Garden.

Mother’s Day Tea and Tour at the Castle Green
Looking for something outside of the typical Mother’s Day brunch? How about some tea at the incredible Castle Green in Pasadena! Enjoy the fantastic architecture of the beautiful Moorish/Victorian style building adorned with gorgeous pillars, balconies and verandas. Tea at noon is extra charge, but well worth it for a memorable experience. While you’re in Pasadena, there are endless things to do from shopping to museums, including the fantastic Norton Simon Museum. Plan an all day adventure!

    Plan a Day Trip
This is one of our favorites! You can plan some incredible day trips that can be only 2 hours away if you’re coming from the L.A. area, including Palm Springs, San Diego, or Santa Barbara! They can be more or less of a drive depending on what part of California you are coming from. Planning tips are as follows. Consider the weather conditions of the area you are traveling to. Research a great place to eat ahead of time! Create an itinerary of the time time you will be eating and the times you will be doing activities. Use sites such as TripAdvisor.com to help you find the best spots to visit on your trip! This could be anything from visiting landmarks, popular outdoor areas or hikes, to the local favorite shops and food! Take lots of photos and perhaps, make this an annual outing!

Take a Trip to the Museum
You may have already thought of this, but it helps to know which museums to choose from. First, consider what kind of museums the mamas in your life will enjoy, then start planning. Looking for something historical? Try the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles or the Japanese American National Museum in the Little Tokyo district? Interested in science? Try the Natural History Museum or the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. Interested in art museums? Try any of the Getty Museums, MOCA or the Santa Barbara Museum of Art! Check out The Arboretum in Arcadia and enjoy everything from wildflowers to wildlife. You’ll likely be seeing a lot of peacocks roaming the gardens. Check out SuihoEn in Van Nuys for a beautiful Japanese garden experience. Enjoy beautiful grass, gardens and architecture in this peaceful garden. The Descanso Gardens in La Cañada/Flintridge are a fan favorite for endless flowers and delicious food at their on-site restaurant. If you’re in the OC area, check out the Sherman Library Gardens for an incredible nature experience in beautiful Corona Del Mar.
