Looking for some adventure this weekend? We all know that LA has plenty of things to do locally, but sometimes we just want a little “Day-cation.” Here are some awesome day trips that are close enough to take from the LA, Valley, OC and other local areas!

1 hour drive.
Balboa Island is the hidden (or maybe not so hidden) man-made treasure of Newport Beach. You can enter the island via Marine Avenue, but we prefer to take the ferry. You can take the ferry via the Balboa Peninsula. You can make the trip alone or you can take your car along the ferry ride for a quick, but beautiful ferry ride. Enjoy frozen treats from rivals Sugar N’ Spice and Dad’s Donuts, parasailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and more! There’s even a cute miniature ferris wheel for the perfect selfie!
1 hour 30 min drive.
Can’t make it to Napa or Sonoma for your wine tasting adventures? Temecula has you covered. Take a tour of Old Town Temecula then head down to Temecula’s Wine Country, which houses a upwards of 30 wineries. Explore as many as you’d like or get comfortable at a winery such as Monte de Oro, which specializes in red wines. If you really want the full experience of Temecula, you don’t want to miss their incredible Magical Adventure Balloon Rides!
2 hour drive.
Solvang – the little Danish town in the Santa Ynez Valley. This little hidden gem is must-see for Californians (if only once in a lifetime). It is filled with novelty shops, touristy post WWII structures, breweries, Danish bakeries and lots of windmills. Have a yummy lunch and don’t miss out on all of the cute photo-ops this town has to offer. While you’re at it, stop by the Santa Inés Mission for some more history!
2 hour 15 minute drive.
Venture out to this whimsical desert for some gorgeous photos, hikes, and sunsets. Joshua Tree is a wonderland of magical looking trees, incredible cacti plans, massive boulders and scenic landscapes! This is truly a must-see of the California desert scapes at their finest. Want to find some great stops along the way? Be sure to exit Cabazon to check out the famous dinosaur park from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure before stopping by Pappy & Harrietts ghost town and more!
For a trip a bit more south, and a little less dry. Visit Coronado Beach, just a ferry ride or short drive from San Diego. This All-American gorgeous town features the famous Hotel del Coronado, wide open beaches with soft sand and relaxed vibes. You can also visit the on-site naval base. See if you can spy some fighter jets flying over head!
